It's official. My prelicensing course is scheduled for February 27-March 9, 2012 at the Maui College. Please go to http://www.edventuremaui.com/catalog.php?courseID=4294, for a complete description and directions to register for it.

The holidays are already upon us with Thanksgiving having come and gone so planning for 2012 is now! Don't miss this chance to take an in-classroom course to fulfill the required 60 hours to become eligible to take the state licensing exam. I do not anticipate giving another course until later in the year.

PLAN AHEAD FOR 2012

All systems are GO for a sales prelicensing class February 27 to March 9 next year. So many prospective students call just prior to the commencement of a class or just after a class is held so I thought I would give you an ample "heads up" so you can plan your schedule accordingly. Because of the accelerated nature of the course, students should really have cleared their calendar of any foreseeable distractions, including work commitments. Six and a half hours of classroom time during the day and reading assignments at night leave the students little time for anything else in their lives for this period. But hey, it's only for two weeks and well worth it if you pass the final and then the state licensing exam.

Hope you can make it in February. The Maui College will include the course in the next catalog so be on the lookout for it and sign up at that time.

WONDERFUL CLASS AUGUST 1-12

IT WAS THRILLING to be able to offer the bonus class earlier this month. Although we were out of sync with the Maui College catalog we had a lively group of select students who put me through my paces. They called it boot camp and for anyone who is already in the business reading this, you know that it is nothing compared to what happens after you get your license!

No more classes for 2011 so I can focus on my commitments to the Real Estate Commission. But come 2012, we'll be rarin' to go again. I'll keep you posted as news develops. In the meantime, you can check out the online prelicensing classes at http://hawaii.gov/dcca/real/real_ed/re_ed/prelic.pdf, where they have a list of registered real estate schools in Hawaii and their website addresses.

I JUST DECIDED TO HOLD AN AUGUST CLASS

In response to you who missed my classes and have written me, I have decided to hold another class, my last class for the year, on August 1-12. It will be the same format as the last time, Monday through Saturday, class will be from 9 to 4:30, Sunday will be a take-home midterm. Monday through Thursday of the following week will be the same routine, class from 9-4:30 and the course final will be held on Friday, August 12 from 8-noon. This regimen should prepare you well for the state licensing exam which I expect will be held on August 13. I think that we have the routine worked out so it provides the maximum effectiveness for the result we all want.

Some students have asked about their ability to obtain the books ahead of time so they can digest the information more leisurely. We have found that it is more effective for the students to study in the same order that the assignments are written. The materials will thus be ready a few days before the first class for the students to get a head start on the first assignment. After that, each night there will be a new assignment for completion prior to the class the next day. That way, the students focus on the material, bite by bite, just like you eat an elephant.

WE HAD A GREAT CLASS MAY 2-MAY 13

ALOHA EVERYONE-
Not only did we have a great class May 2-13 but everyone in the class passed the course! It's some kind of record since that hasn't happened since 2001 when I started teaching this course.

I am trying some new techniques and this class was really into it. I guess it worked because, we did it! Reports are still coming in but 93% of the first time takers from out class PASSED BOTH SECTIONS In the May 14 Hawaii state licensing exam.. Hoo Rah, Good job.

I have received a great number of calls from people wanting to know the date of my next class. Sorry to say, I do not plan on another this year.

That said, there is a possibility if there is enough demand that I might hold one in the fall, if my time permits. Let me know if you want one and I will evaluate the results and my time availability.

NEXT CLASS BEGINS MAY 2 TO MAY 13

Wow, that was a lot of fun and the class really worked hard. 96% of the class passed the class final and are going on to take the state licensing exam. Some have already emailed me that they passed both the uniform portion and the state portion of the exam. I am hoping that we have 100% passing the Uniform. The state portion is tough and requires intense focus on the wording.But i know that they can do it.

Lots of Interest in Real Estate Class

I have been receiving many inquiries asking for the date of my next prelicensing class. It seems that many of you feel what we in the business have noticed, that market activity is picking up. The agents in my real estate firm are all working with qualified buyers as they search for right right property. Buyers are very sophisticated and seem to be well acquainted with the market and understand that there is a lot of competition for certain attractive properties. Sellers are realistic about the market knowing that there are still a lot of foreclosures to be sold which has created somewhat of a temporary stabilization of prices until these distressed properties are sold.

The Maui colllege tells me that they will commence taking registrations for the prelicensing class on January 3. Be sure you call them that week to register to assure yourselves of a seat for the February 7 class. Their number is 984-3231.

I just realized that I listed the wrong start date for my February class. What was I thinking? Class starts on MONDAY FEBRUARY 7 and runs through Friday February 18. So please mark your calendars and better yet, sign up by calling MCC to register.

NEW PRELICENSING CLASS SCHEDULED IN FEBRUARY

I have had numerous inquiries about the next real estate prelicensing course. Because of popular demand I have just scheduled a new accelerated real estate prelicensing course to run for two weeks from February 9 through February 18. The format is Monday through Saturday 9-4:30 and Monday through Friday of the following week with the class final on Friday morning to be followed by a review for the state licensing exam on Friday afternoon. Class location is Maui Community College. If you are interested in taking the course, please call MCC at 984-3231. Although they may not be taking registrations yet, please ask them to take your name and number so they can contact you when they do begin registering for the class.

I was happy with the refined accelerated format which the students seemed to find challenging but not rushed as I felt the previous schedule had been. Repetition of the material, I believe, is the key to successful learning of the subject matter. The topics are introduced first, by the student reading about it, then hearing my lecture and war stories to make the subject meaningful (hopefully), they discuss it in groups, then have a quiz on it at the end of the day. The next day begins with a review of the same material by going over the answers to the quiz both in group discussions and illustrated lessons. Lots of quizzes gave the students plenty of practice with the medium. If you were to ask me the major reason why a student would not pass, I would say that he or she could or did not follow instructions.

Class Dismissed!

What a fun two weeks we had. We had a great turnout, 26 students studying to one day soon become real estate agents. It was a grueling pace, six and a half hours a day, reading homework at night to prepare for the next day's lesson and an online social networking site in which to participate in our "spare time".

All but three passed the class final and eight students opted to take the state licensing exam the same day of the final. What fortitude!

We'll be at it again in February. I'll keep you posted on the dates.

New and Improved Accelerated Prelicensing Course Starts September 27

This Spring we experimented with a two week accelerated real estate prelicensing course. Previously the course had extended for nine weeks with 11 sessions, nine Saturdays and two evenings. The new model called for daily classes from 9-4:30 for nine days with the course final held on the 10th day. Although apparently successful and a barrel of fun for not only the participants but me as well, I think that the model that I have devised that will be presented this fall will be superior.

There will be 11 daily classes, from 9-4:30, a take home midterm on day seven, and a four hour final on the 13th day. In addition to the class sessions and the tests which are all mandatory, an online discussion will be held on the Internet where students can explore the real estate concepts discussed as they relate to real life.

The makeup of the students in the accelerated class was different than those that I had taught in the past. Gone were the part-time students who worked during the week and dropped in, exhausted, on the weekend to attempt to prepare to obtain their real estate licenses. This was full time class and those who enrolled had either taken their vacation to matriculate or were looking to start a new career after successful decades in an old one. Every day was so exciting I could hardly wait to come to class. I think that many of the students felt the same way. Some hated to see the day end, so I was told. There was always more to learn in this challenging field.
